Penicuik Historical Society

Chimneys Down the Esk

Penicuik Historical Society was founded in 1974 to 'promote the investigation into the history of the locality'. We meet monthly to listen to speakers on a variety of historical subjects and material from our archive collection is displayed in Penicuik Library.

For many years the society has had the use of the former caretakers flat in Penicuik Town hall as an archive and meeting place. A few years ago we received funding from ‘Awards for All’ to provide office equipment and safe storage materials to help us preserve our bourgeoning collection.

We have no paid employees, but a small group of 4-6 people have met regularly, for the past few years, to collate and catalogue our archive.
